Hawaii Raised Relief Map
The Hawaiian islands are a line of volcanoes, and a flat map hides the part that matters. This relief map from Hubbard Scientific carries the whole chain in three dimensions, printed on 2mm rigid vinyl, then heat-treated and vacuum-formed by hand over a custom Hawaii mold.
Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa dominate the Big Island end, both climbing past 13,600 feet within a few dozen miles of the coast. Haleakala fills east Maui. The Koolau and Waianae ranges frame Oahu, and Kauai holds Waialeale above the Waimea Canyon country.
- All eight main islands: Hawaii, Maui, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai and Niihau
- Volcanic terrain including Kilauea, Hualalai and the Kohala end of the Big Island
- Color and shading show elevation change alongside the raised surface
- Suits classrooms, offices, vacation homes and returning island travelers
- Geography teachers use the vertical relief to explain shield volcanoes and hotspot chains
It reads as sculpture from across a room and as a terrain reference up close.
