Ghost Fleet of the Outer Banks
This map charts one of the deadliest stretches of the American coastline, plotting more than 500 ill-fated ships lying on the Atlantic sea floor off North Carolina. Shifting shoals, colliding currents, and wartime losses gave these waters their old name, the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Originally printed for National Geographic Magazine in 1970, it is a reproduction of a historical map reissued in 2008.
