A teaching map covering the full era of the legal transatlantic slave trade. The 1450 start date marks the Portuguese-led beginning of the trade out of West Africa. The 1808 end date marks the year the U.S. Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves took effect, with Britain’s Slave Trade Act enacted the prior year.
Across that span, the map identifies the major regions of Africa where enslaved people were acquired and the destinations they were transported to: Northern Africa, Europe, North America, and South America. The four-continent view helps students see the trade as the global system it was, rather than a single route.
Part of the Map Shop Classroom Series. Meets U.S. History curriculum requirements and is used in public schools, private schools, parochial schools, homeschool programs, and university survey courses. Multi-map roller systems are available for outfitting a history classroom with several titles.
