1849 Tallis Map of British America
Northern North America was still being argued over when John Tallis and Company published this map. The Oregon boundary had been fixed at the 49th parallel only three years before, the Hudson’s Bay Company still held sway over Rupert’s Land, Confederation was nearly two decades away, and Alaska appears here as Russian America, years ahead of the 1867 purchase. A single sheet holds all of that unresolved geography at once.
This map comes from Artokoloro as a digitally restored reproduction, not an original antique sheet.
