Oceania is where projections fall apart. Stretch the Pacific across a Mercator grid and the island groups scatter into meaningless specks while Australia shrinks against the northern continents. This map is drawn on the Equal Earth projection, an equal-area projection that holds landmass sizes true, so sixth through eighth graders read honest proportions between Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand, and the scattered archipelagos of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.

Developed alongside classroom teachers and revised on an ongoing basis, labels reflect current political geography.
