World Political Hexagons Map
Oxford Cartographers rebuilt the world’s coastlines out of hexagons for this design-led take on the globe, where every landmass is assembled from a honeycomb grid and each country carries its own political colour.
The map sits on a Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area projection centred on 15 degrees East, placing Europe and Africa at the centre while the Americas and Asia curve around the edges. Equal area proportions keep the geography honest: Greenland reads as smaller than the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as it should. The hexagonal tiling gives the continents a pixelated, graphic quality that reads well from across a room.
It works as a graphic piece in a reception area, a studio, or a home office. Finishing options available from Map Shop include:
- Premium paper
- Satin lamination
- Foam core mounting
- Wood rails in black or walnut
