Erdkarte in Mercators Projektion
Leipzig was one of Europe’s great map printing centers at the close of the nineteenth century, and the Bibliographisches Institut sat right at the heart of it. This 1899 German world map presents the planet as German cartographers drew it in that era: colonial holdings at their height, Mercator’s grid stretching the high latitudes, and ocean basins shaded by depth rather than left blank.
- Drawn on Mercator’s projection at a scale of 1:150,000,000
- Sea depths and land elevations rendered in graded tints
- Place names, legend, and title in German throughout
- Published by the Bibliographisches Institut in Leipzig
Map Shop produces it as a digitally restored reproduction, scanned from the original at high resolution and printed fresh. Choose paper, lamination, mounting to foam core, wood rails, or framing in black or walnut molding. History enthusiasts, German language instructors, and collectors of period cartography hang it in studies, department offices, and library reading rooms.
