Hémisphère Occidental – Louis Brion de la Tour, 1764 Western Hemisphere Map
One year after the Treaty of Paris redrew imperial claims across North America, the Parisian geographer Louis Brion de la Tour issued Hémisphère Occidental, his rendering of the New World as French cartography understood it in 1764. This map presents the Americas in the hemispheric circle format that eighteenth century French mapmakers favored, an engraved snapshot of a continent still being argued over on paper.
Artokoloro produced this edition as a digitally restored print, scanned from the original at high resolution and cleaned of defects before printing. It reads as a period document while keeping the engraved line work crisp on the wall.
- Full original title: Hémisphère Occidental, published 1764
- Cartographer: Louis Brion de la Tour, French geographer
- Reproduction, not an original antique sheet, restored from a high resolution scan
- Finishing at Map Shop: paper, laminated, mounted to foam core, or framed and railed in black or walnut molding
A natural fit for history classrooms, law and university offices, library reading rooms, and collectors of early Americana.
