L’Amérique Dressée pour l’étude de la Géographie
Louis Brion de la Tour drew this map for students, as its full title states plainly: the Americas laid out for the study of geography. Published in 1764, the year after the Treaty of Paris ended the Seven Years’ War and rewrote European claims from the St. Lawrence to the Caribbean, it captures a moment when French geographers were re-examining everything they thought they knew about the hemisphere.
