Stanford’s Library Map of London and its Suburbs
Victorian London was still spilling outward in 1878. This map shows the capital at that moment, when the railways were pulling Hampstead, Camberwell, Hackney and Kensington into the metropolis and the County of London was still eleven years from existing. The Thames, the dock basins east of the City, and the dense street fabric of the era are all here in Edward Stanford’s engraved style.
This is a reproduction, not an original sheet. Map Shop prints it from a high-resolution scan held in the Edward Stanford Cartographic Collection archive, with the signs of age left in place where they add character.
