Stanford’s Folio Japan map (1884)
This map comes out of a decade when the country was changing faster than European cartographers could keep up. Meiji Japan had opened its ports, reorganized its government, and begun the industrial build-out that would reshape East Asia. Edward Stanford’s London house, then the most trusted commercial map publisher in Britain, engraved this folio sheet in the middle of it.
This is a modern reproduction, not an original antique, printed from the archive scan and shipped ready to finish. It reads well in a study, a library wall, a history classroom, or an office where someone has a real connection to Japan.
