Ukrainian culture in the 15th through 18th centuries grew while Ukrainian lands sat divided among neighboring states. Published by Kartographia, the Hungarian cartographic house, this map plots points of interest tied to annal writing and printing, religious life, education, science and literature, music, pictorial art, and architecture and construction.
Four cities carried the heaviest concentration of monuments: Kyiv, Lviv, Ostroh, and Chernihiv. Each is broken out on its own inset map. Photographs of surviving architecture from the period and of monuments to notable cultural figures run alongside the main sheet.
