1852 Andrews Railroad Map of the United States
In 1852 the American rail network was still an eastern story, thickening across New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and Ohio while thinning out long before the Great Plains. This map captures that exact moment. Its full title says what it is: Map of the Railroads in the United States in Operation and Progress to accompany a report from the Treasury Department. The compiler, Israel D. Andrews, prepared it alongside his federal report on trade with the British North American provinces and the Great Lakes, so the lines here were drawn as an argument about commerce, not decoration.
Artokoloro produced this edition from a high-resolution scan of the original, digitally restored for a clean print.
- Distinguishes railroads in operation from those under construction in 1852
- Compiled by Israel D. Andrews for a U.S. Treasury Department report
- Digitally restored reproduction, not an original antique sheet
- Available from Map Shop on paper, laminated, mounted to foam core, railed, or framed in black or walnut molding
A natural fit for rail historians, museum and library walls, and a railroad executive’s conference room.
