The Rhode Island state flag was adopted in 1897 and has a yellow anchor surrounded by a circle of thirteen yellow stars on a white field. The state motto, “Hope”, appears in a blue scroll below the anchor. An anchor, in heraldry, always represents the word hope.
Our state flags are made from 200-denier, 100% SolarGuard nylon. This heavyweight nylon material, developed especially for the flag industry, is engineered to resist damage from the sun’s UV rays and still fly briskly in the lightest breeze.
Why Annin Flags?
Annin Flagmakers has been one of the most trusted names in flagmaking since the 1820s. And that makes it one of the oldest and largest manufacturers in the country. But don’t just take our word for it: Annin flags flew at the inaugurations of every President from Zachary Taylor to George W. Bush. And it was an Annin flag that draped the coffin of President Abraham Lincoln. An Annin American flag, too, was selected by NASA as part of its Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969.
